A homage to Amazing Fantasy #15.
Action is her reward! Look out! Here comes the Spider-Lin!
This is a drawing I've been wanting to do for weeks, though I put it it on hold due to making comics. I drew it in early July. It's composition is based on the cover of Spider-Man's premiere issue; Amazing Fantasy #15. I was going to just wing it on the background, but I remember going to Anime North this year and one of the Legend of Korra Panellists emphasized that one of the biggest reasons Avatar was so successful was that the creators did their research. So I did, even though I don't like making backgrounds that much. The show (Episode 10 especially) and the "Welcome to Republic City" game on Nickelodeon's website were excellent resources for learning how to make the look and feel of Republic City. If there's one thing I will say, it's that this was a pain in the ass to scan. It's slightly wider than most conventional scanners. So I had to go someplace to get it scanned.
I had fun coloring it, but I'm not entirely happy with it. I tried a lot of experimental processes and techniques that I have been reading about that probably had no business going together. I recognize that I made many, many mistakes in this picture, but the good thing is that I did learn a lot from my mistakes and my experimentation so that I can improve for my next piece of digital art. Nonetheless, this was a great chance to combine my favorite Legend of Korra Character, Lin Bei-Fong, and one of my favorite super heroes, Spider-Man. Hopefully I can tackle this piece again sometime to make it better.
I'd love to hear what you guys think of this image.
Also, be sure to check out the original version!
