Commission: Will The Wizard

My very first commission.

My patron for this piece is and it portrays one of his characters, Will The Wizard.

Whenever I do digital art, I like to either refine my skills or try something I've never done before. Here I did both. This was the first time I've done digital art of drawing I've fully inked and cleared out all the paper and pencil marks from the scan. I tried to get a certain look of the character, similar to the style on his character sheet, but mixing my own drawing style in. I also altered Will's clothing slightly. I thought a dynamic pose would be best where it shows him about to call upon a powerful spell with his little dragon there.

The way that the light is coming from the scepter was new to me since I threw a bunch of methods and filters at it to see what looked better. When it came to the shading I tried something new that I call "soft brushing". I used a very grey soft brush and, as usual, used a multiply layer. I've never done shading with a soft brush before. It was really interesting to use. Since he's a mage, I thought it suiting to put magic, arcane circles behind him to clearly show what the character's about and also to be slightly reminiscent of BlazBlue when they activate Distortion Drives. Hopefully you all think it looks pleasing.
